HOW TO IDENTIFY THE BAD EGGS IN THE WORKPLACE

One factor that could drive your business to extinction is having bad employees. Bad employees are like weeds that need to be plucked out.

Managing people is one of the toughest responsibilities that employer’s shoulders because people-related issues, if not handled with care, can affect the company.  These issues could cause a crack in the solid foundation of your company’s culture, philosophy, and principles.

Without a doubt, excellent employees are heaven-sent to the company. They have a respectful attitude to their work and create a positive work environment. What makes them stand out is the commitment they have to their work and also their performance. They give out good vibes and energy and help the company achieve its goals.

Whereas bad employees are like a rotten apple that needs to be removed from the basket before it contaminates the good ones. They exhibit unprofessional behavior, have negative attitudes toward their work, don’t care about the company’s goals and if care is not taken, they would drag the company down.

WHAT ARE THOSE TRAITS OF A BAD EMPLOYEE?

  1. INEFFICIENCY

If you’re an employee that asks too many unreasonable questions or constantly gives excuses, then you’re probably not in your colleague’s or bosses’ good books. It’s never a bad thing to ask questions. But asking unnecessary questions can be annoying, it reflects poorly on your intelligence.

As an employee, learn how to ask relevant questions and cut down on your excuses. Because when you give frequent excuses to avoid being assigned a task or taking responsibility for mistakes you made, your bosses or colleagues would see you as an inefficient person.

  1. BAD ATTITUDE

Poor attitude includes gossip, spreading of rumors, losing temper, rudeness, laziness, etc. If you’re an employee who is a chronic gossip or habitual rumor monger, then you’re a headache to your bosses and colleagues. The management of the company will see you as a bad egg and you’ll eventually be laid off.

Also, losing your temper at even the slightest thing is not a respectful attitude and it would be assumed you cannot work under pressure. No boss likes an employee with a poor attitude because such attitudes lead to a decrease in productivity. Poor attitudes spread like wildfire and can therefore have a deleterious effect on the company.  An employee could scare away a customer with their poor attitude and this could damage the image of that company.

  1. PROCRASTINATION

Most employees have fallen victim to this success killer called ‘Procrastination’. The common definition of this is pushing forward a task that needs to be done immediately. No employer would love to have a procrastinator as an employee because it decreases productivity.

An employee who is a procrastinator would rush through their task at the last minute and present poor work. As a result of a lack of seriousness and Inadequate time spent completing that task. They are likely going to miss deadlines. Procrastination also hurts your colleagues at work. This is because doing a project requires collaboration and input from everyone on the team and rushing your work or not meeting deadlines could set your colleagues backward.

If you’re a procrastinator, it’s high time you quit that habit, as it can slow down your progress.

  1. TARDINESS

This is common among employees, in an organization. There’s always this one or more employee that is a habitual latecomer. Constantly showing up late for work, from lunch breaks, from a place of assignment does not sit well with most bosses. It shows disrespect to work ethics and to your colleagues who attempt to arrive early. It slows down the productivity of the work and erodes morale, as other workers would have to wait for the late king/queen.

  1. DISHONESTY

No one would want to be labeled as a professional liar in their workplace. We all know lying is a bad thing and this habit could make people never trust you. People for a myriad of reasons lie to escape punishment, for their gain, or please a customer. When you fake your credentials, misuse the company’s funds, Rob your colleagues or employers, you will be considered a dishonest person and sent out of the organization. This could be detrimental to your career and it would affect your credibility.

Being honest is the best way to be trusted at work. Bosses love straightforward and transparent employees.

As an employee, your attitude towards your work is crucial to both your career and the overall success of the company. You should exhibit professionalism in all that you do and get rid of any bad habits.
