PEAR; THE CHOLESTEROL-FREE FRUIT

African pear or bush pear is a native fruit of West Africa. It is mainly found in southeast Nigeria. Dacryodes edulius is the fruit tree of the bush pear, sometimes called Ube (Nigeria), atanga (Gabon), Safou (Cameroon), African plum, butter fruit, etc. It’s pink in color when unripe and turns dark purple when ripe.

It is a fruit that is popularly eaten by Nigerians as street food. It is also delicious to eat with cooked or roasted corn. Bush pear has a butter-like nature when roasted or dipped in hot water and is enjoyed by all.
